Cooking a Meal In Jars

Cooking meals in a solar cooker using jars makes meals easy.

Put your main dish in a pot, and put your side dishes in jars. (I use quart jars.)

Using one fairly good sized cooker, you can cook a whole meal in only one cooker. If you need two, put the main dish in one and the side dishes in the other.

Have a 72-Hour Emergency Kit!

We live in a dangerous and unpredictable world. Hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, man-made disasters and terrorist attacks are but a few of the threats that surround us.

Why should you have a 72-Hour Kit?

Because it normally takes at least 72 hours before state or federal aid will arrive - and in most cases it takes even longer.

I, personally, feel that you should have at least a 7-day supply of food, water, etc., but that is my personal preference.

What should you have in your kit?

~Food - canned goods, easily heated foods or foods that need no heating, snacks, etc.

~Water - One gallon per person per day is a good start.

~Personal items - hygiene, toiletries

~Medications - both prescription and non-prescription; ibuprofen, Tylenol, cold medicines, etc.

~First-Aid Kit

~Activities - books, magazines, card games; anything you need to help pass the time

~Candles, flashlights, matches, etc.

~If you have items that need to be cooked, make sure you have a way to cook them: solar oven, hobo stove, rocket stove, etc.

~Cash - small bills and coins, because ATMs may not work and merchants may not have change.
